The southeastern Chinese city of Xiamen is cherished by both locals and foreigners. Many of those foreigners now call the city home, and say it is quickly getting back to its old self with the COVID-19 pandemic now in the rear view mirror. CGTN reporter Lin Nan introduces us to two such expats, both longtime Xiamen residents, who are excited about the near and distant future.

MYLES BERNARD WESTON Pilot, Xiamen Airlines "We all know it is our responsibility to work together to improve the situation. I was really honored to be asked. And of course, I said yes I would. And I just felt that if I can do this to help the people of Wuhan, and help China fight the virus this way."
He has been working for the airline for one and a half years, and chose to stay in Xiamen during this special time.
MYLES BERNARD WESTON Pilot, Xiamen Airlines "Xiamen in particular, we have been very lucky. The situation has always been quite good, and I never felt unsafe. I was really pleased to see them being able to be free to go outside and return to work and return to normal life. And I see this in all parts of China."
The resumption in business also put a big smile on the face of David Krings. The native of Germany opened a craft beer bar in Xiamen, which is popular with both locals and tourists. His business was badly hit by the pandemic. But local government reduced his rent, and he tried to offer takeaway services to get through the tough times.
DAVID KRINGS Co-owner, Fat Fat Beer Horse "We all feel it is getting better now. Local government has done a lot to help the tourism industry during the Labour Day holiday. Visitors didn't need to buy tickets to Gulangyu island, and the local bus was free. These were very helpful to our business."
The bar saw a five-fold sales increase during the Labour Day, while Weston's flight volume has returned to about 60 percent of its normal level. Both men say they are optimistic about their lives and work in China, as the COVID-19 pandemic is gradually becoming a memory across the country. Lin Nan CGTN Xiamen Fujian Province.
